Hey guys! If y’all didn’t know already, I graduated from high school in May this year! It was definitely a bittersweet moment, but I am so excited to start a new chapter in my life. Since this is definitely a huge milestone for me, I wanted to share with y’all what influenced my college decision. It’s so crazy to think that exactly a year ago, I was applying to the college I am now attending! For all the upcoming seniors, your senior year will really fly by! When I see pictures from the beginning of the year, it feels like I was just living in those moments yesterday. All the “lasts” will happen before you know it, so soak up every single moment of it!
Now, onto college! I have decided to attend the University of Arkansas in the Fall, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a Razorback! I know the struggle of stressing about college applications, so my number one tip is to apply as early as possible! Yes, it is still Summer, and you probably haven’t even touched that summer reading book yet, but you will be ten times more stressed if you apply to schools later. I planned to apply to around 8-10 schools, but I didn’t apply early enough so I got too stressed out. Also, I had already narrowed down my decision to two schools, so I didn’t see the point in applying just because of the application fee. In total, I applied to three schools (all early action), and I got into all three of them. I applied to Louisiana Tech, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Georgia. It all depends on the individual, so don’t feel like you have to apply to a bunch of schools if you don’t want to! I know someone in my grade who applied to twenty schools total, and some people only applied to one.
Since this post is more about my personal college decision, I won’t get into the whole basics of college applications, but feel free to ask questions :).
I decided to apply to those schools because of their great business programs. I am going to be a Marketing major, and I will most likely be declaring a business minor as well. Even though I applied to three schools, I knew I would not be going to LA Tech. It was more of my “safety” school, just in case anything happened, and I needed to stay in-state. In my opinion, I just don’t vibe with Ruston, but a lot of my friends are going there, so I definitely will be making a lot of road trips! I visited U of A over Spring break during my junior year, and I instantly fell in love! The campus is so beautiful, and I love their business school. There are a lot of Fortune 500 companies that are located in Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, etc.), which allows their business school to really thrive. Also, I wanted to go out-of-state, and Arkansas seemed like just the reasonable distance. The drive is around six hours, which is quite the drive, but it is just enough distance from home! I visited UGA in the summer, and I fell in love with it as well! U of A is a big state school, but UGA is even a bigger state school! They are known for everything ranging from their football team to their amazing programs to their party life. One of my favorite YouTubers, Danielle Carolan (click here for her channel), goes to UGA, and she loves it! UGA is definitely a more competitive school to get into, but there is always a higher chance of getting in if you apply early action, especially if you are an out-of-state student. UGA was really my number one school, but it really came down to scholarships at the end. Also, UGA is about twelve hours away from home, which is really too far for me.
So with everything being factored in, I officially decided to enroll in the University of Arkansas. I am definitely going to miss all my friends, as all of my close friends are going to different schools in Louisiana, but I still know some people from my school/area going to Arkansas! I am excited to meet so many new people, and just to experience the college life overall. I did “random” rooming, as I found my roommate and suitemates through an Instagram page for incoming freshmen. All of us keep in contact with each other, so it won’t be completely random. I am planning on going through recruitment in the fall, and I can’t wait!
There will definitely be so many more college posts to come! I am planning on doing posts on dorm decor, recruitment week, daily essentials, etc. The next month will definitely become quite hectic, as I am moving to Fayetteville in a month, but this will be an exciting transition!
